‘Tis Time for Toe-Tappin’ Fun….(Wedding pics at the end!)
Due to an error in processing, the initial post/email did not have the YouTube of the song, so we are re-publishing in case you missed the song!!! It is central to the message of the post! Thanks for your patience.
Oh, the power of music. It can bring tears, instantly.
Laughter.
Memories.
Anybody remember “Kiss On My List” by Daryl Hall and John Oats? I can remember exactly where I was standing, by a window in my dorm room at UK, watching and waiting for John to pick me up on a date. This was one of many of “our songs”….
Once you hear it, you’re transported back in time, just like that: boom. It’s 1981….
(Love the ‘80’s BIG HAIR, don’t y’all???)
Music is one of many of God’s soul-stirring gifts. It’s beneficial for one’s well-being therapeutically. (Sounds official, but please read: Music is a mood enhancer for this gal and it’s to everyone else’s benefit that I choose to listen, more often than not…if you catch my drift.)
When I’m stressed, I listen to classical music. When I want a mood lifter, I choose either worship music or jazz. Some worship songs I love so much I suddenly discover I’m speeding in my car, as if praising is going to get me there faster. (Certain an officer of the law would “get” that!!!???)
Everybody has their own gig. Just ask my husband. He’d request country music 90% of the time. (He’s the one who bounces out of bed before the sunrise, feet hitting the floor, while simultaneously singing some crazy kinds of country…)
I could almost go as far as to say, “Music can be medicinal.”
There’s a new song playing on the airwaves these days that is some fine kind of terrific toe-tappin’ tune, guaranteed to lift your spirits. It’s contagious. You cannot help yourself.
The best part? It’s all based on one Scripture from 1 John 4:4: “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (ESV)
Phillips’ version says, “You, my children, who belong to God have already defeated this spirit, because the one who lives in you is far stronger than the anti-Christ in the world….”
My favorite translation comes from The Living Bible: “Dear young friends, you belong to God and have already won your fight with those who are against Christ because there is someone in your hearts who is stronger than any evil teacher in this wicked world.”
So what is this toe-tappin’ tune? Greater by Mercy Me. Please follow along with the powerfully equipping lyrics below: (Try this test: Before you start the four-minute fantabulous video, set both of your feet flat on the floor. See what happens….)
Mercy Me’s Lyrics to Greater:
“Bring your tired
Bring your shame
Bring your guilt
Bring your pain
Don’t you know that’s not your name
You will always be much more to me
Every day I wrestle with the voices
That keep telling me I’m not right
But that’s alright
‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
In the world
In the world
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
Bring your doubts
Bring your fears
Bring your hurt
Bring your tears
There’ll be no condemnation here
You are Holy, righteous and redeemed
Every time I fall
There’ll be those who will call me
A mistake
Well that’s ok
There’ll be days I lose the battle
Grace says that it doesn’t matter
‘Cause the cross already won the war
He’s Greater
He’s Greater
I’m learning to run freely
Understanding just how He sees me
And it makes me love Him more and more
He’s Greater
He’s Greater”
I pray you were blessed by the music as well as the lyrics. (I put key phrases and promises in bold. Don’t miss ‘em!)
This past weekend, in Lexington, KY, we were blessed to be part of our middle son’s wedding. Loads of toe-tappin’ opportunities filled us with grand excitement and a boatload of fun.
God was so gracious to orchestrate such a beautiful union between Gordy and Lauren. Lauren’s family is a huge blessing to our family. They have blessed her with a rich, Christian heritage.
God also blessed us with picture-perfect weather, a powerfully gifted preacher with a punch-packin’ message, gorgeous venue, and dear, dear friends and family to encircle us all with unspeakable joy. And did I mention there was JOY????
(This was taken Saturday afternoon before the wedding. My last “goodbye with the groom” before we all got ready. Gulp.)
(I was blessed to visit the bridesmaids and our Bride while they got ready. We had hair and make-up done, a wonderful treat. Funniest quote by Will Witherington, their preacher during the wedding was, “And here we are with all eighty-seven members of their bridal party….”, as they had a colossal sized wedding party!)
(John and I are pictured here in the SAME BALLROOM of Lexington Country Club where we had our wedding reception thirty years ago this past July! Wow, we praise you Lord, and give you ALL the Glory.)
(Here are Woody and LT, our little newlyweds from 6/28, havin’ some great toe-tappin’ time. They were both in Gordy and Lauren’s wedding.)
(John Jr. gives Gordy some brotherly love and advice. He and Woody were Gordy’s Best Men.)
(Our newest newlyweds!)
(That handsome chauffeur for the newlyweds happens to be my better half…)
‘Til next time!
